How to Create and Use a Photoshop Brush Using Artwork from Adobe Illustrator

This video tutorial walks you through eight steps to creating and using a Photoshop Brush using artwork from Adobe Illustrator. This tutorial is meant for people that have a basic understanding of Photoshop and Illustrator. We consider this a beginner level tutorial. However, this may be suitable for people who have been using Photoshop for a long period of time and haven't explored using custom brushes. Jason Gaylor walks you through these eight steps in this video tutorial and they are summarized on this page for reference.

Step 1:
Open your artwork in Adobe Illustrator.

Step 2:
Select the artwork. Copy the artwork from Adobe Illustrator.

Step 3:
Open Adobe Photoshop. Create a new file at 2500 x 2500 pixels at 72 DPI.

Step 4:
Paste the artwork into Photoshop.

Step 5:
Scale the artwork as large as possible on the art board.

Step 6:
Go to Edit > Define Brush Preset. Click "OK"

Step 7:
Select the newly-defined brush from the Brush Palate using the Paint Brush tool.

Step 8:
Move the cursor over the art board and click to stamp different sizes and colors of the brush.

Great tutorial for those new to the whole Photoshop brush usage scene. Best line in the whole video, "cat stamping extravaganza." Worth watching for the sheer entertainment value alone! Nice work J
